The list below highlights some of the agencies that are members of The Healthy Orange County Coalition (THOC), and are available to assist schools and school districts to promote the wellness of students and staff.

Alcohol and Drug Education and Prevention Team (ADEPT) at the County of Orange Health Care Agency is dedicated to protecting and promoting optimal health of individuals, families, and communities. ADEPT is available to collaborate with school districts in developing and implementing Coordinated School Health and the Local Wellness Policy via School Health Councils, and provide trainings on alcohol and other drugs. California Chapter 4, American Academy of Pediatrics (CA4, AAP), is a non-profit organization that promotes programs to establish high standards of health care for schools and children in Orange County. CA4, AAP serves as a resource to School Health Councils by reviewing health care standards and providing resources. The CA4, AAP is also coordinating the participation of community physicians in the School Wellness Councils. American Cancer Society(ACS) is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy, and service. ACS supports Coordinated School Health and the development and maintenance of School Health Councils to promote health. ACS is available to provide technical assistance related to Local Wellness Policies and Coordinated School Health. California Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance (CAHPERD) is to promote healthy lifestyles through quality education, provide leadership in areas of health, physical education, recreation and dance. Community Action Partnership of Orange County, the official anti-poverty agency for Orange County, implements two Network for a Healthy California Campaign to support efforts of the Local Wellness Policy and Coordinated School Health. The Children’s Power Play! Campaign targets 4th and 5th graders by providing free quality nutrition education, and physical activity lessons.The Latino Campaign provides culturally appropriate nutrition and physical activity lessons for Latino adults. Dairy Council of California is a state government entity that helps to improve the lives of millions of Californians each year through nutrition education. At the school level, Dairy Council of California provides free standard-based nutrition education programs for teachers in elementary, middle, high and after-school. We embrace a nutrition approach that encourages individuals to eat moderate portion sizes of a wide variety of foods. Instructional materials and communications are based on the 2005 Dietary Guidelines and USDA’s MyPyramid food guidance systems. The mission of Fourth District PTA is to empower our members to become effective advocates for all children and youth. Network for a Healthy California at the County of Orange, Health Care Agency, through Nutrition Network/USDA funding, provides nutrition education to Food Stamp eligible families, coordinates with community partners to address childhood obesity issues, and provide administrative support to Orange County Nutrition and Physical Activity Collaborative (NuPAC), a community-based group providing leadership in the areas of nutrition, physical activity, and food assistance. Orange County School Nutrition Education Committee (SNEC) is comprised of representatives from Orange County Network for a Healthy California school districts, the Regional Network lead agency, and the Children’s Power Play! Campaign. The Mission of this committee is to collaborate as a learning community to support nutrition education and physical activity efforts that promote healthy schools throughout Orange County. PowerPlayMD-OC, under the direction of Dr. Alberto Gedissman, is an eight-week intensive weight management program for children and adolescents 4 to 19 years of age, with follow up for one year. It includes behavior modification, nutrition and fitness education, as well as medical supervision and maintenance programs.
