OPERATIONAL GUIDELINES

I.Mission Statement

To connect and share responsibility in advocating for a healthy and safe environment where children learn, live and play.

II.Vision Statement

Healthy Children, Healthy Orange County

III.2007 Goals (need to be approved)

1. Promote Coordinated School Health (CSH) in school settings
2. Develop marketing tools to enhance THOC's visibility in the community
3. Advocate for health policies that impact the wellness of Orange County youth

IV.Membership

The THOC Coalition is made up of representatives from agencies and organizations with special experience, expertise and/or interest in advocating, promoting, or developing safe and healthy environments for children.

There is no limitation on the length of memberships. Members are expected to make every effort to attend monthly meetings. If a member is unable to attend, please notify the chair or co-chair.

V.Organizational Structure

The coalition is to determine a chair and co-chair on an annual basis and must not stem form the same agency or organization in order to increase the collaboration and responsibility among the group. Method for the selection of a chair and co-chair is via nomination of members to the group and voting in person or via email.

Subcommittees will be formed as seen appropriate. The subcommittees will meet as seen appropriate to achieve the goals of the coalition. At this time 3 subcommittees were identified:

VI. Meeting Structure:

The THOC Coalition meets on a monthly basis, on the third Wednesday of every month from 9:30 to 11:00am at American Cancer Society. At each meeting, an agency within the coalition will be highlighted and updates on similar coalitions will be given in order to expand the coalition's knowledge and encourage the sharing of resources.
